Inside: The Chuggin' Rhino in Pomona
John Rodriguez has been in the bar business since he was a teenager. He started off serving brews and eventually climbed up various corporate ladders. He said the experience has given him strong opinions about what he thinks a bar should be to the customer and the community.
It comes as no surprise that he finally opened his own place, The Chuggin' Rhino, in his hometown of Pomona last month.
Rodriguez has carefully planned everything, from the bar’s interior to the layout of the menu. His high standards apply to his staff as well. From the 100 or so applicants, only nine were hired. Rodriguez said he is passionate about his plan and seems to have found a match in Chef Dennis Cruz, who applied his French techniques to pub food, and created a menu of quality comfort food that will change with the seasons.
