Karma Road
Vegan and vegetarian food still tends to get a bad rap, and Chefs Seth and Jenn Branitz know it. Which is why, at Karma Road in New Paltz, the sign describes the eatery simply as an organic café.
"The vegetarians and vegans find us," says Seth, "but we don't want to scare anyone off." Karma Road isn't targeting a niche audience of vegetarians and vegans, they're targeting anyone who likes to eat good food.
"Most people who come in here aren't strict vegetarians," says Seth. "A lot of men will come in here for the first time with their daughters. They'll say, ‘Oh, she loves this place, but I'm a meat and potatoes guy.' Then they'll look in the deli case and go, ‘Is that lasagna?'"
