Inside: Blackboard Bistro in Carmel
Blackboard Bistro, a cute farm-to-table restaurant, opened recently where Stoneleigh Creek and Bungalow used to be in Carmel.
It’s got a salsa-and-cream color scheme, wide plank wood floors, white tablecloths and just 49 seats in the dining room.
Naturally, there are blackboard specials, which are seasonal, local and farm-to-table.
Chef-owner Gary Mongero calls the meu “extreme tapas,” meaning small portions of which you can have several courses.
The menu changes constantly, but a couple of recent examples from August included Painted Hills Farm Filet Mignonw with a Cilantro Black Garlic Compound Butter, Grilled Organic Vegetables and frites; and a grass fed pork loin French chop with a Black Mission fig and roasted shallot demi-glace, served with maple sweet potato mash. Most everything on the menu is organic or local.
There’s a well-chose wine list and a dozen or so craft beers, too.
Here's a quick look inside.
