The Candlelight Inn, a beloved Scarsdale watering hole, is the kind of old-school joint that hearkens back to the days when Central Park Avenue was a two-lane road. Almost nothing has changed in the small, red barn since Jack and Phyllis Tracy opened it in 1955 — Jack still handles the paperwork and leaves his two sons, Mike and Jay, to manage the place. Even the jukebox is a throwback.

Years of community spirit are ingrained in the wood-paneled walls, decked out with faded photos of local athletes and high school team pennants boasting various championships. Open daily for lunch, dinner and late-night snacks, this place is always hoppin'. Seating (and even standing room) can be limited, and the servers work at superspeed to feed the crowd. So don't expect to chitchat — unless you strike up with the folks you'll be rubbing elbows with while you wait for a booth.

Many of the patrons you'll see won't even look at the menu — they'll order the county-renowned Buffalo wings and a cheap pint. If you do ogle the offerings, you'll find a wide selection of brews and pub grub — juicy burgers, an enormous rack of baby-back ribs, a few healthier options for waist-watchers and diverse nightly specials such as lasagna or knockwurst and sauerkraut. The menu is designed à la carte, so be sure to order all your fixings and sides exactly how you like them.

Wallet alert! Make sure you bring greenbacks to pack the register. The Candlelight doesn't accept credit cards. The good news is the average check's only about $30, so you probably wouldn't need a credit card in the first place.
