Velo Bistro Wine Bar

Velo Bistro Wine Bar

12 N. Broadway
Nyack, NY 10960
Neighborhood: Nyack-Piermont area
Chef Anthony De Vanzo uses his classic training and experiences in Italy to create a modern menu with small plates, salads, pastas and entrees. The eclectic wine list changes frequently and has many by-the-glass and half bottle options. The food is very well executed, especially the goat cheese tartlet with honey and thyme and the addictive pastas. Try the gnocchi with lamb bolognese and the chianti risotto with black truffle.

Restaurant X and Bully Boy Bar

Restaurant X and Bully Boy Bar

117 N. Route 303
Congers, NY 10920
Neighborhood: North Rockland area
Very classy with a strong dollop of Manhattan attitude, it's a place to go if you like to eat with strong ambiance. Modern in design, yet armed by country settings and a fireplace, you can dine then finish the evening in the adjoining lounge.
Tarry Lodge

Tarry Lodge

18 Mill St.
Port Chester, NY 10573
Celebrity chef Mario Batali and co-chef and owner Andy Nusser partnered with Nancy Selzer and Joe Bastianich to bring this 100-year-old restaurant back to life as a modern pizzeria-trattoria. White marble, inlaid tile and dark wood make for a comfortable but laid-back atmosphere and the white tablecloths allow you to go for fine dining if you're up for it. And the menu fits the scene: order a couple small antipasti if you're peckish, or settle in for a six-course meal made of pizza, pasta and classic entrees.
Terrapin

Terrapin

6426 Montgomery St.
Rhinebeck, NY 12572
Built in 1825 as a Baptist church, Terrapin restaurant in Rhinebeck is now a shrine to the nondenominational god of deliciousness. The vibe is definitely more “chill out” than “hook up,” but with the glow of the copper wall and the occasional accompaniment of Miles Davis boosting the mood, some lucky patrons at this establishment might get to do both.
Limoncello at the Orange Inn

Limoncello at the Orange Inn

159-167 Main St.
Goshen, NY 10924
Neighborhood: Goshen area
This place is still remembered as the Orange Inn bar, packing a crowd in every day and having a wait to get in the door on the night before Thanksgiving. They have cleaned the place up a bit - O.K.- a lot and it's now a beautiful restaurant, complete with a fireplace and gorgeous chandeliers. This place is full of history and if you chat up a local or two, they may even tell you that George Washington also slept there back in its Inn days.
