Kevin Kline, "Wild Wild West"
Here’s an example of the wrong actor in the wrong movie at the wrong time. Given its soaring budget and escalating popularity of star Will Smith, “Wild Wild West” was seen as the major movie of the 1999 summer season. But when critics and audiences got a glance at the shoddy sci-fi-western storyline, the project became one of the most mocked blockbuster-wannabes in movie history. And Kline’s drag act was singled out as one of the very worst parts of a miserable experience. His U.S. Marshal character impersonates an 1800s prostitute in hopes of hypnotizing an ex-confederate soldier into revealing his secret plans. Sporting a partial beard—and rice bags for breasts—Kline was a creepy sight to behold; later that year, the Razzies nominated Kline’s alter-ego for Worst Supporting Actress.
