We were as surprised as everyone else when NBC and the Hollywood Foreign Press announced that the now-notorious Ricky Gervais would be coming back to host the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards after his shockingly hilarious, near-disastrous run last year.
And after seeing the 2012 Golden Globes, we finally understood what the flipside of that deal would be: aside from the opening monologue, Gervais was practically M.I.A. during the show’s three-hour run, and his jokes were seriously reined-in compared to last year. Still, the wildly irreverent Brit was still able to get in a few good digs.
