Lowdown: Tequila Sunrise in Larchmont

Tequila Sunrise in Larchmont has been a haven for tequila drinkers everywhere since 1992. With more than 100 varieties of tequila to choose from, it offers Westchester's largest selection of the delicious poison. Top that with tasty Mexican cuisine, priced right despite being located at the heart of Larchmont, Tequila Sunrise is mighty fine place to dismount your horse and enjoy, well, a tequila sunrise.

Vibe: The dining room is airy and casual, and everyone at the bar is greeted with a fresh basket of chips and a cup of salsa. Tequila Sunrise is a little bit of Mexico and a little bit of Westchester, mixed in exactly the right proportions so that you feel at home and on vacation in the same sip.

People are out, having a good time, drinking, talking to friends and eating chips. Tequila Sunrise is fun and a good place to practice your Spanish. So when you wake up in the bathtub and you’re still drunk, you can say to yourself “I learned how to say ‘taxicab’ in another language — and not to mix chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream with too much tequila."

Attire: Tequila Sunrise has a pretty big crowd for happy hour, which runs from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday. People flock from all the neighboring villages: New Rochelle, Mamaroneck,  Pelham, White Plains and maybe even a few well-dressed stragglers from Greenwich, Conn. You’ll find people from all walks of life and types of work, elbow to elbow at the bar. The bar at Tequila Sunrise is an interesting mix of Westchesterites and Latin Americans, which when coupled with the traditional Mexican decor, lends it an exotic feel that is hard to imagine in Larchmont. Sombreros are purely optional, of course.

Pick me up: During happy hour, expect smiles and two-for-one drink specials. What recession? And Wednesday is ladies' night, when women drink for half price from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. There are 10 beers on tap, too. And if you’re searching for that special someone, Tequila Sunrise is well-stocked with special someones on a typical Saturday night.

Entertainment: Tequila Sunrise is cool because it often sponsors events by vendors like Dos Equis and offers solid drink specials and free giveaways. There are a few TV’s and more than a few entertaining bartenders.
