Raised in suburban Philly, Patty McIntyre makes her presence known at The Dubliner in Poughkeepsie with clever comebacks and an engaging, upbeat personality. Maybe that's because she was raised in a huge family.
How huge? Well if the siblings were bowling pins, you'd be ready to start a new frame.
The seventh of 10 children in the McIntyre family, the 24-year-old Dutchess resident has studied child psychology and sociology at SUNY-New Paltz. She's got a few funny stories to tell from her days at The Dubliner. And, perhaps to the surprise of no one who knows her, she's a central figure in a bunch of them.
What's the funniest thing that’s ever happened in the bar?
Whenever there was an ugly guy at the bar, and I obviously didn't want to give him my number, I gave him my sister's number.
Ever gone home with a customer?
Yes, but nothing happened. We just were hanging out.
What celebrity would you love to serve, and what drink would you give them?
Oh, man. Someone sexy, probably. Who am I in love with right now? You know, actually, it's kind of weird, but Steve Carell from "The Office." He's hilarious. I'd do shots with him. Body shots — just kidding!
What's a person have to do to get a free drink?
I like to give out free drinks! Not, like, a lot to put the bar under, but I make sure people are having a good time.
What drink will have you calling a cab home?
Anything with tequila in it will have me calling a cab or taking my clothes off.
What is the worst pick up line you have ever heard?
Oh, gosh, there are so many. It's not even a pick-up line: It's "We were trying to guess how old you are." It's a horrible way to start a conversation. I get that all the time and I hate it.
What's the largest cash tip you've ever received?
Hmm, $250. There were five guys on Christmas Eve, drinking away, and I actually got three numbers out of the five. Yeah. I didn't hang out with any of them though.
What made you become a bartender? Do you have any other jobs?
I like interacting with people. I waitress at Shadows as well.
Do you go out to any other bars?
I like to check out different places, but I do like Shadows and I do like it here (at The Dubliner).
Is there a drink that makes you cringe when its ordered?
Ugh, SoCo and lime. Just the smell reminds me of the time that I drank it and threw up. And I just gag.
Have you had any really ridiculous or insane customers?
Lots of 'em!
Do you see fake IDs? If so, what was the worst?
I actually haven't seen that many fake IDs. I think that's because I know a lot of the people who come into here and now it's rare. No, I don't think I've actually seen one.
What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
Most people know it, but I have 10 siblings. I'm the brat of the family and I love it.
Do you have a signature drink?
It's the Baby Guinness shot. Everybody loves it: Kalua topped off with Bailey's.
Relationship status?
I have a boyfriend.
